PETALING JAYA: Prime Minister Najib Tun Razak’s recent trip to Kazakhstan, the Lynas plant in Kuantan and the Glenmarie police shootings may be some of the widely-debated issues in the June 13 parliamentary sitting.
The return of suspended Pakatan Rakyat MPs Anwar Ibrahim (PKR-Permatang Pauh), Azmin Ali (PKR-Gombak), R Sivarasa (PKR-Subang) and Karpal Singh (DAP-Bukit Gelugor) to the House will also be highly anticipated.
Sivarasa said that he and his colleagues will make their entrance on June 16, exactly six months after they were kicked out over the 1Malaysia-One Israel argument.
“We are not apprehensive about our return,” the Subang MP told FMT.
Even so, Sivarasa expressed little confidence in the Barisan Nasional politicians and the House Speakers, claiming that they “could not take criticism”.
The four opposition MPs were suspended after they were cited for contempt following a ruckus in the House.
At the time, Anwar alleged that the government’s 1Malaysia concept was linked with the One Israel campaign.
Mentioning few specific topics, Sivarasa hinted at Najib’s alleged Kazakhstan “family trip”, calling it a “hot debate”.
Other matters such the alleged Glenmarie police shootings and the Lynas rare earth plant are expected to be raised.
Heavy questioning
A debate on foreign domestic workers may also be brought to the surface, especially with brutality claims made over deceased Indonesian maid Isti Komariyah.
Kota Belud MP Abdul Rahman Dahlan expected to see smooth discussions when it came to bills being discussed in the House.
Some of the topics the Umno man had under his belt included the lack of development in his constituency as well as the proposed amnesty programme for Malaysia’s illegal immigrants.
Abdul Rahman, however, expected heavy questioning from the opposition over the possible Tambatuon irrigation dam in Sabah.
Although expressing weariness over the topic, he did not discount possible salvos from Ipoh Timur MP Lim Kit Siang over the matter.
The proposed dam has already been hotly debated between the duo in recent weeks, and has spilled over into Twitter.
“I have explained again and again, but the guy (Lim) does not want to talk about the big picture. (…) He just sees an opportunity to squeeze more political mileage out of this,” he said, and took a swipe at Sabah DAP as well.
“I’m going to present factual statistics and the reality on the ground based on proof. I have the figures on why this dam is important,” Abdul Rahman added.
The June 13 sitting will last for a total of 10 days until the 28th. The period may be subject to an extension, depending on the sitting. - FMT
